Sydney Kingston, M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

PhD Student (Clinical Psychology)

Sydney completed her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in psychology at the University of Manitoba in May 2016 and is currently is in the first year of her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manitoba. Her MA research investigated emotional intelligence in children with and without autism spectrum disorder and its influence on anxiety and depression in her thesis: Emotional Intelligence in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Amber Yaholkoski, M.A., (Clinical Psychology)

PhD Student (Clinical Psychology)

Amber is currently in her second year of her PhD in the Clinical Psychology program at the University of Manitoba.  She is completing her doctoral research project under the supervision of Drs. Janine Montgomery and Brenda Stoesz.  Her doctoral research is focused on examining families experiences navigating the diagnostic process for getting at diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Manitoba.  Amber previously worked as an Autism Tutor at St. Amant in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she developed an interest in researching Autism Spectrum Disorders.  For her Master’s thesis, Amber investigated clinicians’ current methods for assessment and diagnosis of ASD.  Amber was awarded the Canadian Graduate Scholarship- Masters Award during the 2016-2017 year, the Tri-Council Master’s Supplementary Award for the 2017-2018 year, the Faculty of Arts Graduate Award for the 2018-2019 year, and the J.G. Fletcher Award and University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship for the 2020-2021 year.

Kayla Kilborn, B. Hons

M.A. Student, School Psychology

Kayla is in the third year of her 3-year thesis MA in School Psychology at the University of Manitoba. The aim of her thesis is to examine variables surrounding implementation of Social Emotional Learning in Canadian schools. Previously, Kayla was the coordinator for the SPOR Chronic Pain Network at the University of Manitoba and continues to be involved in chronic pain research in Dr. El-Gabalawy’s Health, Anxiety and Trauma Lab. Currently she is the research coordinator for an HSC Foundation funded grant that is aimed at developing a multi-disciplinary online intervention for chronic pain.

Rachel Roy, B. Hons

M.A. Student, School Psychology

Rachel is in the first year of her 3-year thesis MA in School Psychology at the University of Manitoba, co-supervised by Dr. Janine Montgomery & Dr. Leslie Roos. Rachel completed her Honours Psychology degree at the University of Manitoba under the supervision of Dr. Toby Martin in the area of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA). She currently works as the research coordinator for the Strategies for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) Chronic Pain Network at the University of Manitoba under the supervision of Dr. Renée El-Gabalawy, and is the acting manager of Dr. El-Gabalawy’s lab (the Health, Anxiety and Trauma lab). She is currently involved in several chronic pain research projects examining the efficacy of a variety of treatments for chronic pain as well as clinical database development.
